We believe it’s important to take notice of the generosity of others. These are people who leave legacies that reflect what they hold dear. Here are three examples of people and organizations that strive to keep us (and the planet) sustainable:
Big Trash Animal Series- Portuguese street artist Artur Bordalo creates are where once there was garbage. His Big Trash Animal series includes creative re-use of old car parts, worn down rubber tires, and discarded plastics. This talented 29-year-old transforms these elements into 3D wild animal mural portraits. Bordalo says that he does this to draw attention to the trash that has littered modern society, creating, among other things, pollution that can dramatically affect this planet. He uses only scavenged materials and shapes them into rabbits, toucans, raccoons, rats, owls, and more to draw attention to what we throw away and how that threatens a variety of species.
Pinatex- This new textile is made with pineapple leaf fibers. It is designed to provide a sustainable alternative to leather. The range of uses includes bags, shoes, and furniture. Creator Carmen Hijosa has noted that this new leather is not only a vegan alternative to traditional leather, it is also a way for a more conscious consumer society to support more responsible and sustainable methods of achieving versatile resources.
Concept Plastics- Architect Oscar Mendez founded this company to construct homes from discarded plastics in his native Bogota. Recycled plastic and rubber are used to form building blocks. Currently 40 such residences have been build, and has repurposed over 300 tons of plastic waste. An important benefit is the higher quality of living such homes can provide.
Please share this good work with others, especially those who may be looking for ways to help others.
